The laptop locker: prepared replacements at the site, built to your configuration.
A laptop locker, sometimes called an IT vending machine or smart locker, is a badge-access cabinet that holds working laptops at the site so a person whose device failed can be back at work in minutes rather than days.
In Surya Standby the locker is the delivery mechanism, not the product. The product is the prepared replacement inside it: captured from the configuration you already run, held ready, issued against a serial number and replenished from the Surya facility in Research Triangle Park.

Replacements built to your configuration.
Surya captures the existing laptop image and configuration for each employee persona or role and prepares replacement equipment to that agreed configuration. Under Surya Standby on its own, the devices in the locker are built to your own standard. From Surya Endpoint up, Surya builds them to the released standard.
/ How a swap works
Badge in, take the replacement, keep working.
The locker is an on-site badge-access smart locker: networked, every slot tracked, accessed with the employee's existing corporate identity.
The person at the site makes the first move. If the device is obviously dead - no power, damaged, will not start - they go straight to the locker and pull the working replacement. If it might come back, they call support and a 30-minute restoration window opens; if it is not working at the end of that window, the replacement comes out of the locker. Either way, the swap is recorded.
The failed device goes back through the return leg: repair routing, warranty movement and certified erasure to NIST 800-88 where erasure applies, each step recorded against the serial number.
/ Who owns what
Your devices. Surya's locker.
The customer purchases and owns the equipment, including the prepared replacements. Surya provides, installs, owns and operates the locker at the site. A network-only scope does not require a laptop locker: qualified switches, firewalls and other critical equipment are held in an existing secure room or cage outfitted with Surya RFID.
/ What it is not
Boundaries.
- A prepared replacement covers device failure, not an application outage, an identity outage, a power loss or every network fault.
- A replacement device is not a backup.
- Standby alone does not include Surya Control and does not take over ongoing tenant, endpoint or network administration.
- There is no free pilot and no free hardware. The product is bought and installed to the standard.
/ Placement
Where the locker goes.
Placement is confirmed during qualification: a locker for workstations, or a secure room and cage for site equipment. Identity integration, issuance permissions and approvals for the replacement workflow are agreed at the same time, and the locker is stocked to the equipment classes written into scope.
