A truck without its tablet is a crew without its work order.

The utility operations or fleet manager needs the device to leave with the vehicle. Surya stages the replacement at the yard, records the handoff and keeps the next unit ready.

For utility operations or fleet manager.

When the vehicle cannot work

A truck rolls without a working tablet and the crew cannot pull the work order, the switching order or the map. The outage ticket is worked from memory. The vehicle comes back to the yard, the crew swaps the failed device, and the dead unit returns through the same controlled path.

Recovery, staged in advance

An on-site badge-access smart locker sits at the yard, depot, station or precinct. It is the fixed recovery point for the devices that ride in the vehicles.

At the yard

The on-site badge-access smart locker holds the rugged devices, modems, terminals and printers the fleet uses. A crew badges in, swaps the failed unit, and returns the dead unit to the same locker.

Behind the yard

The hub receives the returned device, records its serial number, and manages repair, warranty, certified erasure or retirement. Used inventory is replenished the next business day.

Job sites move; the locker doesn't.

The yard is the fixed point in a moving operation. It is where vehicles return, where a working replacement can be taken without waiting for a shipment, and where the failed unit starts its return path. Field devices are swapped from the locker when the vehicle comes back, or shipped to the site on the customer's carrier account. The dead unit returns to the same locker.

What the locker holds

The first step is the locker at the yard, depot, station or precinct. Surya provides and operates the locker. The customer purchases and owns the replacement devices inside it. Surya replenishes used inventory the next business day. Every device and every handoff is tracked.

  • Rugged laptops and tablets for crew trucks
  • Vehicle modems and routers
  • Mobile data terminals
  • Handheld inspection and meter-reading devices
  • Dispatch and depot workstations
  • Printers

/ The boundary

We stop at the depot network.

Substation equipment, SCADA and grid operational technology are outside the program. Surya covers the computers the crews carry and the workstations the depot runs on.

/ Surya Critical

Beyond the field devices

Yard firewall and depot network kits run under Surya Critical, through the same qualification process and chain of custody. Quoted separately.

The customer purchases and owns the replacement devices. Surya provides and operates the locker.

Every device and every handoff is recorded, by serial number. A used replacement is replenished the next business day. The operation starts at the place the vehicles leave from.

Test it at one site

/ Try one site first

Try one site first.

A controlled continuity exercise at one site. We stage a replacement, simulate a failure, then follow the immediate swap: Obviously dead: straight to the locker. Might come back: a 30-minute restoration window, then the locker. Complete the guided swap and document the custody chain.
